Kenny's Maintenance Tips.

Welcome to our new monthly eZine.

Quick history of Absolute Fitness.

absolutefitness
Absolute Fitness Solutions was started in 2000 by Sam Wiggins and Ken Sides.

Started as an extension of Sam's local gym (Absolute Fitness in Marietta PA) they would bring in a few pieces as needed working on them in Sam's 20x30 garage.

In the past 7 years Absolute Fitness has expanded into one of the East Coast's largest suppliers of used commercial fitness equipment.

Now occupying a 17,000 sq. ft. warehouse in historic downtown Lancaster PA, Absolute Fitness Solutions supplies equipment to individuals and gyms around the world.

AfsFit.Com gets a website makeover.

We appreciate your patience over the last few weeks while we have updated our website.

Special thanks to Noah Alkinburgh the original designer of afsfit.com making the transition smooth and providing additional support.  Visit Our New Site By Going to http://afsfit.com

text goes here There are so many options in Treadmills.  It can be hard to choosemy favorite is the Star Trac 4500.  It is lightweight and easy to move.  It is an especially good choice for those who are planning to put their treadmill in their basement.  It maneuvers up or down stairs easier than many other treadmills.

When bringing home your used commercial treadmill there are a few things you should know

  1. Make sure that the belt on the treadmill has been waxed by your fitness equipment retailer prior to bringing it home.  Proper belt waxing is essential to the maintenance of your treadmill.  Start off on the right foot by being sure that your treadmill is waxed before you begin using it.

  2. When you bring your new treadmill into your home (especially in cold weather) make sure to let it come to room temperature for at least an hour before you turn it on.  You can ruin your electronics if you turn it on while it is cold.

  3. When deciding on the placement of your treadmill it is important to consider your outlets and breakers.  The treadmill will need to be plugged into an outlet with a corresponding breaker that can handle the load of the treadmill.  i.e. A breaker that supplies a TV, washing machine and several lights would not be a good choice!

  4. Stand behind your treadmill and eye the treadmill belt to make sure it is tracking evenly on the deck and rear roller.  If it does not seem to be aligned properly check your users manual for instructions on realigning the belt properly.  If your treadmill did not come with a users manual you can download one for most models at www.afsfit.com.

  5. Over time your treadmill will need routine adjustments and maintenance.  You would be surprised at how many of these you can do yourself.  Read your manual to find out the suggested frequency of waxing and belt adjustments.

  6. It is important to keep your treadmill clean.  Sweat and dirt are enemies of your treadmill.  Sweat will destroy your overlays, shields and many of the moving parts.  Wipe down your treadmill after every workout and clean dirt, dust and debris from around and under the treadmill often.

  7. Many commercial treadmills come equipped with a dedicated 20 amp plug on the end.  While many homes do not have compatible outlets the solution is quite simple.  20 amp dedicated plugs have one of the three prongs turned sideways (see diagram below).  A 20 amp dedicated outlet can be picked up from any hardware store and installed in the wall.  Another solution would be to purchase or make an extension cord with a dedicated 20 amp female end and a standard male end.  A third option is to remove the end of the treadmills cord and replace it with a standard plug.  Any of these 3 solutions should be performed by a licensed electrician.

Once you have accomplished these items you can enjoy a long fitness relationship with your newly reconditioned treadmill!

Important note:  You should always read the safety instructions that come with your fitness equipment and obtain the approval of your physician before beginning any workout routine.
